After more than 11 years on the market, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is offering a new generation that favors hybridization.

all about the new generation
It’s been more than eleven years since the current generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was commercialized, making it a true veteran at a time when new things are coming together.
Although it was redesigned twice, in 2013 and 2017, the large American SUV was beginning to show signs of wear, despite a largely modernized design and the presentation in 2017 of a high-performance version. Named Trackhawk, it was a 6.2-liter V8 taken from the Challenger Hellcat and developed no less than 707 horsepower.
- But now it’s time for a revival for one of the brand’s stars, as its fifth generation unveils itself, which is full of new features in every respect.
- In addition to its style, this new version also changes its range of engines, while the brand has already begun its phase of massive electrification.
- Now available as a plug-in hybrid, this new Jeep Grand Cherokee joins the Renegade as well as the 4x Compass.
- Without pushing everything, this new version of the great SUV offers a new style, which remains in continuity.
- No great revolution therefore for this fifth-generation, but more modern and aggressive lines.
- The calendar is refined and stretched, while it incorporates new optics that are longer and less massive than on the previous version.
The overall look looks more elegant, while the lowered roof available in black on some versions gives an impression of increased dynamism. Onboard, this Jeep Grand Cherokee takes a real leap forward, offering a presentation that is still very much modernized.
A new 10.1-inch touch screen with Uconnect 5, combined with a digital handset of the same size, will be introduced. It will also be possible to add a 10.25-inch screen in front of the passenger, as well as in the rear. The new, more spacious Grand Cherokee features a 2.96-meter wheelbase and boosts its 40-liter trunk volume to a total of 1,067 liters. The cabin storage has also been redesigned and expanded.
Place for hybridization
Based on a brand-new platform developed to accommodate a hybrid powertrain, this new Jeep Grand Cherokee remains a true franchisor in the soul. The aircraft was equipped with three four-wheel-drive systems as well as a Quadra-Lift air suspension, which increased ground clearance by 28.7 centimeters. In terms of motorization, customers will have the choice between two alternatives, including an electrified one, for the first time in the history of the large SUV.
The entry-level will however be embodied by a classic thermal engine, namely the V6 3.6 liters Pentastar, developing 293 horsepower, backed by the V8 5.7 liters of 357 horsepower. But the big novelty lies in the arrival of a 4x plug-in hybrid version, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder block with two electric motors, for a total power of 375 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque.
Three driving modes will be proposed (hybrid, electric, and leave), to reduce consumption, while the 17 kWh battery allows the SUV to travel about 40 kilometers in all-electric.
But that’s not all, because this new Jeep Grand Cherokee is also changing its technological endowment, offering night vision, drowsiness detection at the wheel, or semi-autonomous driving. The first deliveries are expected to start in the next year, when the brand has not yet announced the prices of its SUV.
