The extension of a modular crossbreed model is the big news for the 2022 Audi A7. The hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged four-chamber engine and an electric motor to produce 362 horsepower.
What's new in 2022?
The A7 PHEV will be fitted for electric-only driving thanks to its 14.4-kWh battery pack, but Audi hasn't revealed any details on the vehicle's range. Aside from the new PHEV variant, Audi has made only minor alterations to the A7 lineup for 2022.
The top-of-the-line Prestige model comes with a newly optional Sport package that includes 21-inch wheels with summer tires and a flexible steel suspension.
Motor, Transmission, and Performance
The A7's base engine is a turbocharged V-6 with 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed programmed gearbox transmits this energy to Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The A7's basic V-6 powertrain also has a 48-volt cross-breed assist system that aids stop/starting the action and limits extreme slack. Audi's smooth speed was appreciated throughout the everyday drive.
- Its sophisticated all-wheel-drive system provided excellent traction in both wet and dry situations.
- Both slack and energetic choke inputs were expertly handled by the programmed transmission.
- If you want anything that can just drive on electricity, you'll have to upgrade to the new module mixture model, which produces 362 torque thanks to a combination of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-chamber and a locally accessible electric engine.
- We haven't had the chance to test this model yet, but we've put a lot of time and effort into the ordinary V-6. On the A7, Audi brilliantly blends opulence and dexterity.
- While we were in the driver's seat, its eager responses and airy ride quality soon stood out.
- The regular crashes from harsh effects went unseen despite our test vehicle's optional 21-inch wheels.
- Its flexible suspension was very effective in restricting movement and enhancing perfection.
Although the steering response was straight, with adjustable heave available in various driving settings, it never communicated what the front wheels were doing. The two A7 versions we tested showed impressive braking force, slowing down lengths of 157 feet and 163 feet respectively.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
According to the EPA, the A7 with the six-chamber engine will get 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway in 2022. These figures closely match those of competitors such as the BMW 540i xDrive (21 MPG city, 29 highway) and the Mercedes-Benz CLS450 4Matic (21 MPG city, 29 highway) (23 cities and 30 parkway).
The modular half-breed A7 gets a combined rating of 29 MPG (5 MPG more than the nonhybrid's combined gauge) and a range of 24 miles on electricity alone. The V-6-powered Audi we tested far outperformed its highway figure, averaging 36 MPG on our 75-mph mileage course, which is critical for our extensive testing. During our highway test, the CLS also delivered 36 MPG, but the Bimmer only managed 31 MPG.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The inside of the A7 is immaculately finished, with enticing materials and sturdy equipment. Inside, each lodge has ambient lighting, heated front seats, leatherette seating surfaces, an all-encompassing sunroof, three-zone climate control, and more.
In any case, they're managed completely through the touchscreens, which is unpleasant. The A7 also has a terrific driving stance, which is complemented by excellent outward visibility. Backseat passengers have climate controls, power outlets for charging devices, and even heated seats, which are all optional.
Three full-size edges would be contained in the secondary lounge, which calmly accommodates too many grown-ups. We were able to put seven portable luggage behind the A7's split-collapsing rear seat thanks to the A7's beneficial force-worked liftback. With the seats folded flat, the vehicle could also carry 20 bags of cargo.
We also found out how to fit a golf bag and buggy inside the cargo area. Regrettably, the A7's inside cubby space is only mediocre. The front entrance pockets are small, and there is a little receptacle in the center reassure.
