Until several years ago, most of the car's audio systems were equipped with a cassette player, but then it became a CD player. With the constantly expanding technology, CD players now also have the ability to play MP3, WMA, AAC, and there are even car sound systems that will now be equipped with USB slots.

•  Most cars have a CD player, and there are others that also include the option of a CD changer that can contain multiple discs.
• These CD changers can be housed in the main unit of the car stereos or stored in a separate unit that is normally stored in the trunk. 
• Some car stereo equipment now even supports DVD players and LCD screens that have been designed to entertain children on long trips.

The speakers are also an integral part of the audio system in cars and are usually found in the doors at the front of the car and on the trunk at the rear of the car.

There is a wide range of speakers available in the markets today and, like the main units, technological advances also influence them.

Another component of the audio system may also include amplifiers, and these are vital if you want to have several speakers in your car.

As you can see, the audio system in your car doesn't just consist of the small unit that takes your CDs or plays the radio, and these systems have many more components.
